Canceling roaming rates in EAEU postponed to 2028 - Eurasian Economic Commission

MINSK. July 10 (Interfax) - Fair roaming rates in the Eurasian Economic Union are planned as of January 1, 2028, the press service of the Eurasian Economic Commission told Belarus' BelTA state news agency.

"During a meeting of the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission on July 8, 2025, a new deadline for implementing the plan to introduce fair roaming tariffs was approved for the fourth quarter of 2027. Prior to this, the commission expects to render all the necessary decisions and cancel roaming as of January 1, 2028," the EEC said.

"All of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union have supported the initiative to cancel roaming and introduce fair tariffs for roaming services," the EEC noted.

There were plans previously to introduce these roaming tariffs in the EAEU in 2025.

"However, owing to the need to study the matter additionally on leveling the financial losses of mobile operators, as well as to prevent fraudulent traffic and set up billing systems, the parties have postponed the cancellation date. This will allow the Eurasian Economic Commission jointly with the member states to analyze further the levels of international interconnect rates and inter-operator roaming tariffs, and develop an optimal tariff option that accounts for the interests of both subscribers and telecom operators," the EEC explained.
