Reserves of National Bank of Moldova decline 3.4% in H1 2025

CHISINAU. July 8 (Interfax) - International reserve assets of the National Bank of Moldova declined to around 5.07 billion euros at the end of June 2025 from nearly 5.248 billion euros at the end of December 2024, the National Bank said.

Consequently, reserves decreased 3.4% in the first half of the year. Reserves rose 0.4% in the second quarter, up 4.6% in June, after declining 3.7% in the first quarter.

The share of foreign currency accounts for 5.052 billion euros in the reserves, down 3.6% in the first half, up 0.5% in the second quarter; and monetary gold accounts for 6.8 million euros, up 13.3%.

The National Bank's reserves increased 0.6% in 2024 after rising 21.9% in 2023 and 14.7% in 2022.

The National Bank of Moldova began maintaining statistics on reserves in euros in connection with transitioning to the euro as the base currency as of January 1, 2025.
