Former European Commissioner Johansson becomes EU special envoy for Ukrainians
MOSCOW. July 8 (Interfax) - Former European Commission for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson has been appointed EU special envoy for Ukrainians, Ukrainian media said, citing a statement by Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister, National Unity Minister Alexei Chernyshov on a social media.
He said the special envoy was tasked with enhancing coordination, representing the interests of Ukrainians and implementing support instruments, including through the development of the network of unity centers.
"Ms. Johansson earlier served as the European commissioner for home affairs. She is well aware of the Ukrainian context and has repeatedly visited Ukraine since the beginning of the crisis. I am hoping for fruitful cooperation to support our citizens in Europe," Chernyshov said.
