EU allocates grant of 76 mln euros to Ukraine for railway from Lvov to Polish border

MINSK. July 4 (Interfax) - The European Union has allocated a grant of 76 million euros to Ukraine to construct a European-gauge railway line between Lvov and the border with Poland, Polish media reported, citing Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction Alexei Kuleba.

"The coordinating committee of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) program has approved the Ukrainian Railways [Ukrzaliznytsia] project. This is the first full-size section of the future Skniluv-Mostiska II direct railway link with Europe with the European standard gauge of 1435 mm," Kuleba said.

Kuleba said that the launch of the European railway would reduce travel time, alleviate border checkpoints, and create new opportunities for transit.

The tracks will be built along a 72.9 km section from the Polish border to the outskirts of Lvov.
