Zelensky deprives Metropolitan Onufriy of Ukrainian citizenship
MOSCOW. July 2 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has signed a decree terminating Ukrainian citizenship of Metropolitan Onufriy (Orest Berezovsky), the primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, Ukrainian media reported citing the Ukrainian Security Service's social media post on Wednesday.
"Based on the Ukrainian Security Service's filings, Ukrainian citizenship of Orest Berezovsky, better known as Onufriy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, has been terminated. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has signed a corresponding decree," it said.
According to media, Metropolitan Onufriy, 80, who was born in the Chernovtsy region of Ukraine, has served as the primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which is canonically subordinate to the Moscow Patriarchate, since August 13, 2014.
