IAEA aware of drone strike damaging vehicles near Zaporozhye NPP

WASHINGTON. July 2 (Interfax) - The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) team has been informed about an attack on the vicinity of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) that damaged a number of vehicles, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said.

"The IAEA team based at Ukraine's Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant has been informed of a drone attack that damaged several vehicles near the site's cooling pond last week," Grossi said in a statement published on the IAEA website.

According to the Zaporozhye NPP administration, the incident involved six drones and happened about 600 meters away from the nearest reactor unit.

"If this report is confirmed, it would represent a completely unacceptable attack in the proximity of a major nuclear power plant," Grossi said.

"It must stop immediately," he said.

It was reported earlier that a Ukrainian drone attacked Zaporozhye NPP personnel at the plant's hydro-technical facilities 350-400 meters away from reactor units on June 27. The attack damaged a service vehicle, while the personnel took a shelter and were not harmed.
