Macron in conversation with Putin calls for solutions to Iran-related problems

PARIS. July 1 (Interfax) - French President Emmanuel Macron has called for a diplomatic solution to the Iranian nuclear problem and to that of Iran's missile program, during his telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, a statement from the French president's office said on Tuesday.

"Macron expressed his willingness to search for a diplomatic solution for a long-term settlement of the Iranian nuclear problem and also for a settlement of problems around Iran's missile development program," the statement said.

Also, in the opinion of Macron, diplomatic efforts are needed in regard to "Iran's role in the region," it said.

The French leader called for Tehran to comply with the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, to fully cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and for IAEA inspectors to resume work in Iran as soon as possible, the statement said.
