Ukraine quits another two CIS agreements
MOSCOW. June 26 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian government decided on Wednesday to terminate the country's participation in another two agreements concluded within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in 2008 and 2013, respectively, Ukrainian media said, citing the government's representative to the Verkhovna Rada Taras Melnichuk.
These include an agreement on cooperation in creating state information systems for new-generation passport and visa documents and their further development and use by the CIS member states, signed in Chisinau, Moldova, on November 14, 2008, and an agreement on wildfire prevention and response in the border districts of the CIS member states, signed in Minsk, Belarus, on May 31, 2013.
Ukraine was a founding state of the CIS, but never ratified its charter. Ukraine, however, participated in a number of joint CIS agreements. Kiev terminated its participation in all of the CIS statutory bodies in 2018 and continues to withdraw from the CIS agreements.
