Uzbekistan to commission renewable energy facilities costing $5 bln, start projects worth another $7.2 bln in 2025
TASHKENT. June 24 (Interfax) - Uzbekistan plans to commission renewable energy facilities costing more than $5 billion in 2025, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's press service said following a meeting on supplying large industrial enterprises with green energy.
"This year we plan to launch 12 solar and four wind power plants, as well as 12 energy storage systems. The total investment in these projects is more than $5 billion, and their total capacity is about 9 billion kWh. In addition, construction will begin on another 11 projects for a total of $7.2 billion," the press service said.
The meeting emphasized the rational use of electricity as well as its generation. It heard that 18 sectors accounted for a third of total power consumption. In this regard, measures were considered to transfer these sectors to an autonomous energy supply system.
Uzbekistan has been expediting the development of green energy in recent years to provide the economy with sustainable energy sources. Almost $6 billion of foreign direct investment has been attracted to this sector to date.
