Number of refugees from Ukraine granted temporary protection in EU down 30.9% in Q1 2025 - Eurostat

MOSCOW. June 24 (Interfax) - The number of new decisions on granting temporary protection to refugees from Ukraine in the European Union dropped by 30.9% to 136,113 in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, Ukrainian media reported citing a European Statistical Office (Eurostat) report available on its website.

Over the entire 2024, a total of 780,280 people who fled Ukraine were granted temporary protection in the EU, down 26.1% from 2023, it said.

Ukrainian citizens lodged around 25,000 first-time asylum applications in 2024, of which 87.2% were accepted, with the average level for such decisions being 51.4%.

A total of 4.26 million refugees from Ukraine had temporary protection status in the EU as of April 30, 2025, increasing by fewer than 500 people over April, according to Eurostat.
