Russia's Nordwind Airlines requests flight clearances to Pyongyang

MOSCOW. June 23 (Interfax) - Russia's Nordwind Airlines has requested from Russia's Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia) flight clearances from Moscow to Pyongyang, North Korea, according to materials available on the agency's website.

Clearance has been requested for flights with a frequency of up to two times a week.

There are currently no direct flights between the capitals of Russia and North Korea.

Direct railroad communication between Pyongyang and Moscow and Pyongyang and Khabarovsk resumed earlier in June. It was suspended in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Russian Railways, Pyongyang-Moscow is the longest nonstop railroad route in the world. The distance between the capitals is more than 10,000 kilometers, and the travel time is eight days.
