Multimodal terminal for Trans-Caspian International Transport Route opens at Poti seaport

ASTANA. June 9 (Interfax) - The official opening of a multimodal terminal built by Kazakhstan, Georgia and Azerbaijan took place at the Poti seaport in Georgia on Monday, JSC Poti TransTerminal said in a statement.

"The new terminal is a key element of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, connecting China and Central Asian countries with Europe via the Caspian and Black Seas," it said.

The terminal's annual capacity is 80,000 TEU, with a prospect of reaching 200,000 TEU. Its simultaneous storage volume is 4,000 TEU. The terminal features 3.3 km of railway tracks and can accommodate up to 120 railcars simultaneously.

"Investments in the project exceeded $30 million, all of it private capital," the statement said.

The project took less than two years to deliver.
