Kazakhstan considering uranium supplies to Bulgarian nuclear plant - Samruk-Kazyna head

ASTANA. June 9 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan is exploring potential uranium shipments to Bulgaria for the country's nuclear plant, CEO of the Samruk-Kazyna national wealth fund Nurlan Zhakupov said.

"There is a nuclear power plant in Bulgaria [Kozloduy]. It consists of two [power] units. The potential area for cooperation lies in supplying our uranium to the Bulgarian NPP," Zhakupov said at the Kazakh presidential residence during Bulgarian President Rumen Radev's official visit to Kazakhstan.

When asked about the potential amount of uranium supplies to Bulgaria, Zhakupov said that this was confidential information.

Bulgarian President Rumen Radev arrived in Astana for an official visit on Monday. During the high-level talks, the prospects for developing Kazakh-Bulgarian trade, economic and investment cooperation will be discussed.

Kazakhstan's uranium production and exports are managed by state-owned Kazatomprom, a subsidiary of Samruk-Kazyna.
