Shah Deniz shareholders sign FID for constructing compressor platform at field - BP-Azerbaijan

BAKU. June 3 (Interfax) - Shareholders of the Shah Deniz field development project signed the final investment decision (FID) for the Shah Deniz Compression (SDC) platform construction project on Tuesday.

"The official signing of the Final Investment Decision for the SDC project took place today as part of Baku Energy Week. The $2.9 billion SDC project is a continuation of the field's two previous development phases. This project aims to enable access to low-pressure gas reserves at the field and ensure their production, which will allow maximum gas recovery from the field," BP-Azerbaijan said.

The project is expected to enable the production and export of approximately 50 billion cubic meters of additional gas and around 25 million barrels of additional condensate from the field.

It is planned that the construction of the new platform will begin in 2025.

As reported, BP intends to commission the SDC platform in 2029. The project aims to access low-pressure gas reserves and extract them with maximum recovery.

The project involves constructing the electrified SDC facility operating primarily without personnel, and installing electrical and fiber-optic cables as well as intra-field subsea pipelines from the Alpha and Bravo platforms. The SDC will be equipped with four compressors, each with 11 MW capacity for gas compression.

The SDC is designed to capture low-pressure gas from certain reservoirs of the Shah Deniz field, compress it, and deliver it to the Sangachal terminal. Low-pressure gas will be supplied from the Alpha and Bravo platforms. The SDC platform is intended exclusively for compressor equipment, without drilling operations.

The SDC will be installed 3 km from Bravo and 10 km from Alpha. It is planned that construction of the foundation block and topsides for the new platform, along with subsea infrastructure components, will be carried out in Azerbaijan. Most onshore construction activities and commissioning are scheduled for 2026-2028.

The first low-pressure gas production from the Alpha platform is scheduled for June-July 2029, and from the Bravo platform for April-May 2030, according to the timeline.
