Erdogan sees potential to work with Azerbaijan on Turkmen gas transit

BAKU. June 3 (Interfax) - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan noted the successes and potential of energy cooperation with Azerbaijan and said the countries could work together on exports of Turkmen gas through their territory during a visit to Baku.

"Our countries have achieved many successes together in the energy sector over many years. The geopolitical changes of recent years have again underlined the importance of energy cooperation between Turkey and Azerbaijan," Erdogan was quoted as saying at Baku Energy Week by the website of Azerbaijan's president.

Cooperation between Turkey and Azerbaijan, including the implementation of projects such as the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline and Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline (TANAP), benefits both countries and continues to make an important contribution to the energy security of the region and Europe, Erdogan said.

The two countries now have the opportunity for mutually beneficial cooperation on exports of gas from Turkmenistan through Azerbaijan and Turkey, he said.

This project will make a strong contribution to both expanding the geography of energy supplies and increasing the prosperity of countries in the region, Erdogan said.
