Russia's power consumption down 0.9% since start of year, but up 0.2% when adjusted for weather - System Operator

MOSCOW. May 27 (Interfax) - Russia's power consumption since the beginning of 2025 has fallen 0.9% compared to the same period in 2024 (accounting for last year's leap day), Fyodor Opadchy, the chairman of the management board of the System Operator, told reporters.

When adjusted for temperature factors, power consumption shows a 0.2% increase.

"We haven't revised our forecast yet," Opadchy said when asked about expectations for the full year 2025.

"Currently, we have figures from the GDSP [Grid Development Scheme and Program]. Weather factors had a significant impact. Therefore, it's too early to discuss annual results, but overall consumption [adjusted for temperature] continues growing unevenly across the country," Opadchy said.

As he previously told reporters, Russia's total electricity consumption increased 3.1% in 2024. The indicator reached nearly 1.192 trillion kWh, according to the operator's materials.
