U.S. companies eyeing investment in Tajik mining industry - U.S. ambassador

DUSHANBE. May 22 (Interfax) - U.S. companies are looking at investing in mining enterprises in Tajikistan and starting up new operations to discover and develop the country's untapped mineral wealth, U.S. Ambassador to Tajikistan Manuel Micaller, Jr. said.

U.S. investment plays a crucial role in developing Tajikistan's mining industry, the U.S. embassy cited Micaller as saying.

"American investment has helped build Tajikistan into the world's second largest producer of antimony, strengthening our trading partnership and bolstering economic growth for both nations. My team and I are here to help," Micaller was quoted by the embassy's website as saying.

The ambassador visited the JV Anzob antimony mining company and the AmCo antimony refinery in the Ayni district of the Sughd region.

"American companies are partnering with Tajikistan to strengthen both of our economies, boosting industrial output and contributing to our shared prosperity and stability. Antimony, a rare and valuable mineral, is essential for batteries, electronics, and fire-resistant materials," he said.

These two companies in the Ayni district account for a significant portion of the Sughd region's economic output, creating job opportunities and enhancing trade between the two countries, he said.

"Tajik antimony exports are crucial for various American industries, showcasing the importance of our partnership," Micaller said.
