Russian Transport Ministry discussing introduction of overbooking on high-frequency flights
MOSCOW. May 20 (Interfax) - The Transport Ministry is discussing the introduction of overbooking (the intentional sale by an airline of more tickets than the number of seats on an aircraft) on flights operated at least twice a day, State Secretary and Deputy Transport Minister Dmitry Zverev said at the 13th St. Petersburg International Legal Forum (SPILF).
"The Transport Ministry, together with consumer organizations, is currently discussing new mechanisms, including the introduction of overbooking. This includes mandatory compensation, and most importantly, we are talking about the fact that overbooking would only be allowed on flights that operate no less than twice a day. This number may possibly be higher," Zverev said.
