Ukraine plans to install small modular reactors in Chernobyl Exclusion Zone

MOSCOW. May 19 (Interfax) - Plots of land could be allotted in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone for installing small modular reactors, Chairman of the Ukrainian State Agency for Exclusion Zone Management Grigory Ishchenko said.

"We're also prepared to allot plots of land for placing small modular reactors for Energoatom. An agreement or a memorandum on starting this work is to be signed in the near future. This is part of a program which will hopefully be implemented in Ukraine," Ukrainian media quoted Ishchenko as saying in an interview.

As reported earlier, Energoatom and Ukrenergo tentatively identified 12 sites around Ukraine for installing small modular reactors.
