Russia preparing to launch beef exports to Malaysia - Rosselkhoznadzor

MOSCOW. May 15 (Interfax) - Russia and Malaysia have agreed to accelerate the approval of documents required for launching exports of Russian livestock products to the Malaysian market.

Beef exports could commence in the shortest possible time after completing necessary procedures, the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) said following negotiations between the service's assistant head Artem Daushev and Director General of the Veterinary Services Department at the Malaysian Agriculture and Food Security Ministry Akma binti Ngah Hamid on expanding bilateral cooperation.

"The parties noted significant progress regarding access of Russian livestock products to the Malaysian market and agreed to expedite the approval of documents required for initiating exports of beef, beef by-products, poultry and dairy products," Rosselkhoznadzor said.

Russia is ready to begin beef shipments promptly after completing all procedures, and there is a high level of biological control and safety at production facilities and in electronic product certification that enables tracking product movement and exporting to many countries worldwide, Rosselkhoznadzor said.

The negotiations revealed mutual interest in animal feed and vaccine supplies.

As reported, following recent talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russian agricultural producers are interested in expanding exports of meat and dairy products to Malaysia, including halal-certified goods.
