Aliyev congratulates Erdogan on PKK's decision to disband

BAKU. May 12 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev has congratulated his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the decision by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) to disband and disarm.

"I cordially congratulate the whole brotherly people of Turkey led by my dear brother, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on the decision by the terrorist group PKK to disband and to surrender weapons. This is an event that marks an important stage in achieving the proclaimed goal of a terror-free Turkey, a result of the decisive policy pursued by the country on the path to statehood, the triumph of strong leadership and unshakeable will, national unity and solidarity," Aliyev said on X.

The PKK's announcement was also welcomed by the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry as a significant step towards steady peace and stability.

"We are expecting swift practical steps to end the terror threat in the region. We give due to the Turkish leadership for its unwavering commitment to eradicating terrorism, strengthening security and fostering stability," the ministry said in a statement.
