Roscosmos plans to open GLONASS ground station in Venezuela in early July
MOSCOW. May 7 (Interfax) - Russia is planning to open a ground station of its GLONASS satellite navigation system in Venezuela by July 5, Roscosmos' general director Dmitry Bakanov said.
"We want to present a gift to Venezuela on Its Independence Day [with] the opening of a GLONASS station by July 5. We had it scheduled for July 4 and we are going to plan," Bakanov said on First Channel on Wednesday.
The relevant contract was signed on December 15, 2022. The station will improve the system's time-coordinates and accuracy characteristics both in the Western hemisphere and globally, Roscosmos said before.
Russia is going to expand its network of ground correcting stations of the GLONASS satellite navigation system, Bakanov said on April 27.
