Kazakh president appoints two deputy chairmen for Nuclear Energy Agency

ASTANA. April 25 (Interfax) - Timur Zhantikin and Aset Makhambetov have been appointed by presidential decree as deputy chairmen of Kazakhstan's Nuclear Energy Agency, the head of state's press service said on Friday.

Zhantikin, 69, has worked as head of JSC Kazakhstan Nuclear Power Plants since 2016. Previously, he held managerial positions in Kazakhstan's Nuclear Energy Agency, including as chairman of the Nuclear Energy Committee. He earlier worked at the Institute of Nuclear Physics and the Energy Ministry and also served as member of the board of directors at JSC National Atomic Company Kazatomprom.

Aset Makhambetov previously worked as the managing director for the nuclear fuel cycle at Kazatomprom.

The Nuclear Energy Agency was established by presidential decree in March 2025 and is now led by former Energy Minister Almassadam Satkaliyev.
