Rosnedra and RosGeo announce fundamentally new prospects for oil and gas potential in north of Krasnoyarsk Territory

MOSCOW. April 23 (Interfax) - The Federal Subsoil Resources Management Agency (Rosnedra) and RosGeo state geological exploration holding have confirmed significant results from state geological exploration work in the Gydan-Khatanga zone of the Krasnoyarsk Territory and have announced fundamentally new prospects for oil and gas potential in the central part of the Yenisei-Khatanga depression.

"On April 17, 2025, an inflow of light oil was recorded at the parametric Novoyakimovskaya-1 well during testing of intervals of the Lower Cretaceous Nizhnekhetskaya formation. The test results confirm the oil and gas potential of the Achimov reservoir in the central part of the Yenisei-Khatanga regional depression. The proven area of oil and gas-promising territories has nearly doubled to 100,000 square kilometer owing to the obtained oil inflow. The data open up fundamentally new prospects for the oil and gas potential of the north of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, which is one of the most promising new oil-bearing provinces," RosGeo said.

RosGeo's geologists jointly with the All-Russia Geological Research and Development Oil Institute (VNIGNI) conducted a detailed study of the deep geological structure of the western part of the Yenisei-Khatanga depression during the work. The data obtained confirms the oil and gas potential of the Agap zone, located between the Payakh group fields of the Vostok-Oil project and the East Taimyr cluster, the company specified.

"Drilling a deep parametric well in Taimyr is a large-scale and very ambitious task. Drilling operations and scientific research were carried out in extremely difficult natural conditions, hundreds of kilometers beyond the Arctic Circle, in a completely autonomous mode. Our specialists successfully handled all the challenges at a high professional level," the statement quotes RosGeo CEO Sergei Radkov, who noted the high importance of the project, since the results obtained will contribute to the development of oil production on the Taimyr Peninsula and an increase in cargo traffic along the Northern Sea Route (NSR).

Rosnedra launched the program to study the promising and priority Gydan-Khatanga zone in 2014. The geological forecast of scientists from VNIGNI subordinate to Rosnedra rendered it possible to justify the need for regional seismic exploration studies, and then the drilling of the Novoyakimovskaya-1 parametric well. The geological study is being carried out as part of the Reproduction and Use of Natural Resources State Program. JSC RosGeo is the executor of seismic exploration and drilling works.

The Novoyakimovskaya parametric well with a design depth of 5,020 meters is located beyond the Arctic Circle, in the north of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, and drilling began in June 2020. The purpose of drilling is to study the deep geological structure and obtain a set of geological, geophysical and geochemical parameters of the Jurassic-Cretaceous deposits of the western part of the Yenisei-Khatanga depression to assess the prospects of the Agapa potentially oil and gas bearing zone. JSC Rosgeo is conducting the work under a contract with the Federal State Budgetary Institution VNIGNI on behalf of Rosnedra.
