Almost two-thirds of Russians identify as Orthodox Christian - poll
MOSCOW. April 18 (Interfax) - Sixty-one percent of Russians identify as Orthodox Christian now, according to a poll conducted by the Public Opinion Foundation (FOM). The results of the poll were published on the official website of the sociological center on Friday.
The poll results show that the percentage of Russians who identify as Orthodox Christian is the highest among respondents aged 60 and older (69%).
As for respondents who identify as other Christian communities, in particular, Catholics and Protestants, their percentage, according to the poll, is two percent.
Seven percent of the respondents said they identify as Muslims. The percentage of respondents who identify as Muslims is the highest among Russians aged from 31 to 45 (10%), the sociologists said.
According to the survey, two percent of the respondents said they identify as other religious communities and one percent were undecided.
Twenty-four percent of the respondents said they are atheists, this percentage reached 37% among young people aged 18-30, FOM said.
The poll was conducted on April 4-6, 2025. It surveys 1,500 respondents aged 18 or older in 97 populated areas of 51 regions of Russia.
