Kazakhstan to abolish export duty on agricultural hides, wool for 3 years

ALMATY. April 17 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan's Interagency Commission on Trade Policy and Participation in International Economic Organizations approved the abolition of export customs duties on agricultural hides and wool for three years with possible further revision on April 16, 2025, the Agriculture Ministry's press service said.

"The main reason for this decision is the low domestic demand for a significant portion of produced raw materials. In particular, processing and exports of agricultural hides and wool remain at low levels," the ministry said.

Abolishing export duties on hides and wool will primarily help reduce losses and disposal costs for livestock farmers engaged in cattle and sheep breeding, while developing full-fledged production and marketing chains, expanding sales markets, and creating additional competitive advantages for domestic agricultural raw material producers and exporters, the press service said.

The Agriculture Ministry will continue monitoring the situation to provide a prompt response.

Current export duties on cattle and sheep hides as well as other untanned hides, stand at 200 euros per tonne, while wool exports carry a 10% duty (but not less than 50 euros per tonne), the ministry said.
