Balti-Suceava power line linking Moldovan and Romanian grids scheduled for completion in 2027

CHISINAU. April 11 (Interfax) - The Moldovan parliament has passed a law to streamline administration procedures as part of a strategic project to construct the 400-kV Balti-Suceava overhead power transmission line, modernize the Balti power station and build a new power station, the parliament's press service reported.

The line will cost 37 million euros to build, with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank each loaning Moldova 14.8 million euros and the EU allocating a grant of 7.4 million euros.

A contractor for the project will be selected via a tender, which will be announced in May. The 48-km transmission line is due for completion in 2027.

The Balti-Suceava line is part of a national strategy to unite the country with the continental European ENTSO-E electricity transmission system, alongside the Vulcanesti-Chisinau and Straseni-Gutinas overhead power line projects, planned for completion in 2025 and 2030 respectively.

"The Balti-Suceava line is a very important pillar in our future energy architecture. This project will improve energy security, interaction with the European grid and allow us to realize our national potential in the field of renewable energy. There will be significant investment in the modernization of existing infrastructure, which will raise the efficiency and reliability of the whole system," State Secretary of the Moldovan Energy Ministry Carolina Novak is quoted as saying in the press release.

The parliament said that the bill contained a series of statutory exceptions, necessary in order to speed up administration processes and issue authorization acts in the interests of the project.
