This year's spring sowing in Ukraine 20.6% behind last year's levels - Agrarian Policy Ministry
MOSCOW. April 11 (Interfax) - Ukraine has sown more than 1 million hectares with spring grain and leguminous crops as of April 11, 2025, compared to 926,000 hectares a week ago, which is 20.6% less than as of April 12 last year, Ukrainian media said on Friday, citing the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.
According to the report, 141,100 hectares have been sown with wheat (116,500 hectares a week ago), 612,200 hectares with barley (551,800 hectares), 182,800 hectares with peas (164,300 hectares), and 106,100 hectares with oats (82,300 hectares).
In addition, 51,500 hectares were sown with sunflowers (33,000 hectares a week earlier), 76,000 hectares with sugar beets (64,800 hectares), and 4,500 hectares with soybeans (2,600 hectares).
In all, it is planned to sow more than 5.7 million hectares of spring grain and leguminous crops in 2025, which corresponds to the level of 2024, the ministry said. The main feature of the new season will be an increase in the area under spring wheat by 28%, to 222,800 hectares. Such changes in the crop structure correspond to stable demand from processing enterprises and exporters.
As reported, 1.26 million hectares were sown with spring grain and leguminous crops in Ukraine as of April 12, 2024. Peas were sown on 147,700 hectares, barley on 683,400 hectares, wheat on 173,900 hectares, and oats on 117,000 hectares.
