U.S. ambassador to Ukraine resigns - Dept of State
WASHINGTON. April 11 (Interfax) - U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink has resigned and is returning to the United States, the U.S. Department of State said on Thursday.
"She's returning home. Yes," U.S. Department of State spokesperson Tammy Bruce said in response to a question whether she could confirm media reports about the ambassador's resignation.
In turn, Ukrainian media cited a CBS News report, which said, citing its sources, that Brink's resignation "stems from an unusual mix of personal and policy concerns, including the recent USAID layoffs."
"Secretary of State Marco Rubio intended to keep Brink, a career foreign service officer, in the job and declined the initial resignation she had submitted in January as part of the standard turnover between administrations," it said.
Brink's resignation comes at a pivotal moment for U.S.-Ukraine relations. the report said.
CNN said earlier, citing a source, that Brink had stepped down.
Brink has been serving as the U.S. ambassador to Ukraine since May 2022.
