Chisinau interested in importing oil products, gas from Azerbaijan - Moldovan Energy Ministry
BAKU. April 7 (Interfax) - Chisinau is interested in importing oil products and natural gas from Azerbaijan, the Moldovan Energy Ministry said on Monday.
"Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu held a series of high-level meetings during his official visit to Baku on April 4. During negotiations with the president of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic (SOCAR), Rovshan Najaf, the minister expressed interest in diversifying energy sources and importing oil products and natural gas from Azerbaijan," the ministry said.
Junghietu also discussed the issue of attracting investment from Azerbaijani companies to Moldova's energy market. There are opportunities for cooperation, he said.
"We aim to explore SOCAR's capabilities in exporting oil products and natural gas to Moldova at competitive prices compared to other countries, thus ensuring the accessibility and security of energy supplies," Junghietu was quoted as saying by the ministry.
He also raised the issue of possibly exchanging information about the investment climate in Moldova's energy sector to attract new investment and promote strategic partnership between the two countries.
As reported, the 11th ministerial meeting of the consultative council of the Southern Gas Corridor and the third meeting of the consultative council on green energy took place in Baku on Friday. A delegation from Moldova also participated.
There is a need for constant diversification of natural gas supply sources to ensure the country's energy security, Junghietu said during the events. Cooperation with international investors is important in order to develop renewable energy production, integrate it into the energy system, and support energy efficiency enhancement programs, he said.
