Rosprirodnadzor estimates damages from fuel oil spill in Kerch Strait at 84.943 bln rubles, presents assessment to ship owners
MOSCOW. April 4 (Interfax) - Russia's Federal Natural Resource Use Oversight Service (Rosprirodnadzor) has completed its assessment of the damages caused by the fuel oil spill that occurred when the Volgoneft 212 and Volgoneft 239 tankers sank in the Kerch Strait in December 2024, Rosprirodnadzor head Svetlana Radionova said.
"The claims presented are: Volgatransneft, the owner of tanker No. 239 [Volgoneft 239] at 35.483 billion rubles, and Kama-Shipping, the owner of tanker No. 212 [Volgoneft 212] at 49.46 billion rubles. The total amount of damages calculated by Rosprirodnadzor and presented was 84.943 billion rubles. The claims have been sent to the ship owners, and the companies have exactly one month to decide by which means they will compensate for the damages caused. The claims will be sent to the courts after this month," Radionova said.
