SOCAR expands new subsidiary's functions, transferring management of entire gas transportation infrastructure
BAKU. April 3 (Interfax) - SOCAR Midstream Gas Operations LLC (SMGO), the new division of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic (SOCAR), which was assigned management of the export-oriented South Caucasus Pipeline, will oversee its entire gas transportation infrastructure, including SOCAR's pipelines and gas storage facilities both in Azerbaijan and abroad.
"SMGO is a newly established SOCAR division entrusted with managing all gas transportation operations. The company serves as the technical and commercial operator of the South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP) in Azerbaijan and Georgia and represents SOCAR's interests in the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP), the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) and SCP projects," SMGO said on social media.
SMGO was created through a spin-off from SOCAR Midstream Operations (SMO), enabling both entities to operate independently and focus on their strategic objectives, it said.
"At the same time, in line with SOCAR's operational model, SMGO's responsibilities will be expanded to include management, oversight and operation of the entire gas transportation infrastructure, including SOCAR's pipelines and gas storage facilities both in Azerbaijan and abroad," it said.
On March 17, 2025, the Azerbaijani State Tax Service said that as a result of the separation of SMGO from SMO, the charter capital of SOCAR Midstream Operations was reduced from 59.5 million manat to 1,000 manat, and its rights and obligations were transferred to SMGO in accordance with the separation balance sheet.
SOCAR Midstream Operations was established in early 2015 to manage strategic equity stakes and represent Azerbaijan's interests in onshore export oil and gas transportation pipelines and facilities.
