Ukrainian govt approves 100 mln euro EIB loan to restore water supply infrastructure
MOSCOW. April 1 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian government has approved a loan of 100 million euros from the European Investment Bank (EIB) under the Ukraine Facility program to fund the restoration of water supply and sewage systems, Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said.
"We need more than $11 billion to restore water supply and sewage infrastructure. We have secured 100 million euros in financing from the European Investment Bank under the Ukraine Facility instrument," Ukrainian media quoted Shmygal as saying at a government meeting on Tuesday.
This money will be used to rebuild water supply and sewage systems and bring them in line with modern standards, he said.
The government also approved a new 100 million euro tranche from the EIB to finance the restoration of critical and social infrastructure, he said.
"We are talking about restoration in the water and heat supply sector, education, healthcare, and housing for internally displaced persons," Shmygal said.
More than 400 projects will be implemented as part of this program thanks to cooperation with the EIB, he said. Some of them have already been carried out, and more than 200 will be completed this year and in 2026.
"The total portfolio of the EIB's projects in Ukraine stands at around 4.3 billion euros today, covering critical infrastructure, housing, energy, transport, education, social policy, and digitalization," Shmygal said.
