DP World revising model for NSR project with Rosatom, adding export-import cargo
MURMANSK. March 28 (Interfax) - Arab port operator DP World (DPW) and Russian state corporation Rosatom are reviewing their joint project for container shipments along the Northern Sea Route (NSR), DPW's representative in Russia, Sergei Chemarda said at the International Arctic Forum in Murmansk.
"We are now trying to revise the business and financial model of our transit project for export-import operations along the Northern Sea Route," Chemarda said.
The potential scale of container shipments along the NSR is estimated at 840,000 TEU, he said.
This figure includes export, import and transit shipments, Chemarda told Interfax. The estimate is for container shipments beyond the horizon of 2030, when hubs will be ready and the necessary container ships and icebreakers will be built, he said.
"We're changing the project, adding export-import volumes," Chemarda said.
Rosatom and DPW formed a joint venture in 2023 to develop transit container shipments through the NSR.
DPW, one of the largest port operators in the world, is owned by the government of the United Arab Emirates. The group operates more than 60 port terminals and employs over 100,000 people in 75 countries. The group operators major ports, terminals, industrial parks, logistics and commercial centers with combined throughput capacity of more than 90 million TEU.
