Armenia proposes discussing date, venue of signing peace deal with Azerbaijan - Security Council secretary

YEREVAN. March 20 (Interfax) - The leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan should meet to sign a peace agreement, and Yerevan stands ready to discuss the venue and time for signing the document, Armenian Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan said.

"Armenia is continuing to promote a peace agenda. We keep working toward this so that an agreement should be signed. And we stand ready to start technical discussions on specifying the date and venue for singing the peace agreement with Azerbaijan," Grigoryan told journalists at a press briefing following a government meeting on Thursday.

"As the text of the document has been agreed upon, we believe there should be a meeting [between the two leaders] for signing this agreement," Grigoryan said.

"Armenia is working to promote the process of signing the agreement. We haven't proposed a specific venue for signing, but we stand ready to discuss and agree upon such a venue with Azerbaijan," Grigoryan said.

He declined to answer whether Yerevan and Baku were holding any discussions on signing the peace agreement at the moment.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Wednesday invited Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to start consultations on signing the peace agreement.
