Ukraine's Naftogaz buys nearly 100 mln more cubic meters of LNG from Poland's Orlen
MOSCOW. March 18 (Interfax) - The Naftogaz of Ukraine has signed a contract for the supply of nearly 100 million more cubic meters (mcm) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) with the Polish oil concern Orlen, Ukrainian media quoted the company as saying in a statement on Tuesday.
"Cooperation with Orlen gives Ukraine the opportunity to expand its LNG import capacity and improve energy security. We are continuing to work on diversifying supply sources in order to guarantee the reliability and availability of gas for the country," Naftogaz Group CEO Roman Chumak was quoted as saying in the statement.
The company said that the fuel would be supplied in a batch of LNG from the United States. After regasification, the gas will be shipped to the Polish-Ukrainian border.
The gas will be delivered to Ukraine as early as in April. It will be used to create a strategic reserve for the next heating season.
As reported, in March 2025, Naftogaz and Orlen signed a memorandum on long-term cooperation in the area of LNG, under which they concluded a contract for the supply of the first 100 mcm. The memorandum starts long-term strategic cooperation between the companies and it will give Ukraine an opportunity to set up a more diversified gas supply system.
Ukraine may import at least 4 billion cubic meters of gas from April to October 2025, head of Ukrainian Gas Transmission System Operator LLC Dmitry Lippa said. He said that liquefied natural gas would account for up to half of the total imports via Europe. As much of this gas as possible could be delivered from the U.S.
