Russian Industry and Trade Ministry seeks to reinstate state control in several sectors where it was abolished, such as construction materials
MOSCOW. March 17 (Interfax) - The Industry and Trade Ministry is ready to initiate a discussion on reinstating state control over product quality in certain sectors, Industry and Trade Minister Anton Alikhanov said.
Alikhanov was responding to journalists' questions regarding the results of inspections of Chinese Shacman trucks for compliance with requirements.
"Some products have been recalled, as unfortunately they were found not to meet mandatory requirements. We will continue this work. The issue is that, unfortunately, we sometimes encounter situations where serial supplies are found to be non-compliant with the required standards even after certification," Alikhanov said regarding the Shacman inspections.
"Perhaps, based on this experience, it is worth returning to state control and supervision over a range of industrial products which it was abolished for," he said.
"Construction materials, for example, are among those. We are currently conducting an experiment [on labeling] on them under the instruction of Denis Valentinovich [Manturov, first deputy prime minister]," he said.
As reported, state control over compliance with mandatory requirements of 13 Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) technical regulations for a number of industrial goods, including cable and wire products, construction mixtures, cement, radiators and others, was abolished in Russia in mid-2021. Representatives of Russian businesses, particularly the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP), have appealed to the authorities with proposals to restore state control.
