Uzbekistan endorses agreement with Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan on partnership in developing, transferring green energy

TASHKENT. March 17 (Interfax) - An agreement on strategic partnership in the development and transfer of green energy between Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan has been adopted by a corresponding decree of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

"To endorse the agreement between the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Uzbekistan on strategic partnership in the development and transfer of green energy, signed on November 13, 2024 in the city of Baku," the document published on Uzbekistan's internal legislation database said on Monday.

The Uzbek Energy Ministry has been named as an authorized body in charge of its implementation.

As reported, Mirziyoyev signed this trilateral agreement last November as part of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku. "The economic effect from implementing the project will be seen by all its participants," he said. At the same time, Mirziyoyev said that around two GW of solar and wind power generating capacities are annually commissioned in the country. The share of renewable energy sources is expected to be raised to 40% by 2030, while 4.2 GW energy storage systems will be created.
