Turkmen president approves draft program for int'l cooperation on renewable energy resources

ASHGABAT. March 17 (Interfax) - Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov has approved draft programs to boost Turkmenistan's international cooperation on renewable energy resources in 2025-2030 and events to implement it, the Neutral Turkmenistan paper reported on Saturday.

The draft documents were presented to the president by Turkmen Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov at a government meeting on Friday.

Comprehensive work is being done to implement the provisions of the Turkmen law On Renewable Energy Resources and the National Strategy of Turkmenistan on the Development of Renewable Energy in the Period until 2030, the deputy prime minister said. At the same time, the country is successfully fulfilling its obligations that follow from the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement on climate change.

This work was done in collaboration with interested foreign partners, he said. In particular, there was interaction with specialists from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the Secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, the UN Environment Program, the UN Development Program, the UN Industrial Development Organization, the Global Environment Facility, and also the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia, the Asian Development Bank.

The program envisages the establishment and intensification of cooperation in this sphere with authoritative international organizations and financial institutions, research centers, leading countries of the world and foreign companies, Meredov said.
