Net forex purchases by population in Ukraine near $1 bln in Feb 2025

MOSCOW. March 13 (Interfax) - The volume of foreign currency purchases by the Ukrainian population exceeded the volume of foreign currency sales by $950 million in February 2025 versus $1.48 billion in January 2025 and $820 million in February 2024.

Cash forex purchases by the population decreased by $443.9 million to around $1.975 billion in February 2025 month-on-month, while cash forex sales went up by $11.5 million to $1.140 billion in the reporting period, Ukrainian media said, citing data on the website of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).

Non-cash forex purchases fell by $59.7 million to $400.3 million, while non-cash forex sales edged down by $6.4 million to $276.9 million in February.

In the non-cash foreign currency market, purchases increased by $527.9 million to around $6.88 billion and sales grew by $601.7 million to $4.377 billion in February month-on-month.

The volume of inter-bank transactions also decreased by $285.6 million to $5.832 billion in February compared to January.

In February 2024, forex purchases by banks' clients grew by $1.208 billion, while sales dropped by $347.5 million. Meanwhile, the volume of inter-bank transactions grew by two-thirds, or by $2.325 billion.

As reported, the NBU's net foreign currency sales declined by $691.6 million to $3.058 billion in February 2025.

The U.S. dollar's average monthly exchange rate dropped by 44 kopecks, or by 1.04%, to UAH 41.67 in February 2025.
