Rosaccreditation to sign memorandum with Global Carbon Council in 2025, opening international market for climate projects - Russian deputy PM
MOSCOW. March 12 (Interfax) - Rosaccreditation needs to conclude a memorandum in 2025 with the Global Carbon Council on recognizing accreditation for Russian bodies verifying greenhouse gases, which will enable Russian projects to enter the international market, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said at a meeting of Rosaccreditation.
"This year, Rosaccreditation needs to sign a full-fledged memorandum with the Global Carbon Council on recognizing accreditation for Russian bodies in validation and verification of greenhouse gases to ensure access for Russian climate projects to the international market," Novak said.
A protocol of intent was signed with the Global Carbon Council, an international carbon crediting program, in 2024, he said.
The memorandum could be signed in the coming months after a series of technical procedures are completed, the head of Rosaccreditation Nazary Skrypnik said.
Rosaccreditation is Russia's national accreditation body responsible for accrediting Russian entities in the validation and verification of greenhouse gas emissions.
The Global Carbon Council is the first international carbon crediting and sustainable development program. It was established together with the World Carbon Fund in 2016 at the initiative of the research and development organization of the Gulf countries.
