VTB supervisory board appoints Olga Skorobogatova bank's first deputy chairperson
MOSCOW. March 11 (Interfax) - VTB's supervisory board approved Olga Skorobogatova for the position of first deputy president and chairperson of the management board at its meeting on March 10, according to the bank's materials.
Skorobogatova has been appointed to the position of first deputy chairperson for a term lasting until June 9, 2027, inclusive. Her candidacy must be approved by the Central Bank of Russia. She will be responsible for strategic development and strategic partnerships at VTB as well as building and developing the international payment system, VTB said.
"The strategy adopted last year for VTB for 2024-2026 established our development priorities and the strengthening of VTB's position. Our philosophy is to strengthen external ties and ourselves, creating a multiplier effect for the state, clients and partners. The recruitment of Olga Nikolayevna is no accident. I have no doubt that her vision of the future banking sector, her ability to create elements of this future and her experience in implementing innovative solutions will give VTB the momentum to achieve our strategic goals," VTB's CEO Andrei Kostin said.
Frank Media reported in late January, citing three sources, that former CBR First Deputy Governor Skorobogatova could join VTB's management board and oversee international payments and all related matters, as well as the fintech direction.
Skorobogatova left the Central Bank in December 2024 to continue her work outside of the institution. She had worked at the CBR since 2014 and was appointed first deputy governor in September 2017. She oversaw the work of four departments at the Central Bank - the national payment system, financial and information technologies and the operational department.
The National Payment Card System (NPCS, the operator of Mir cards) was developed and the Faster Payments System (FPS) was created under Skorobogatova's leadership. She also oversaw the creation of the digital ruble - the third form of the Russian national currency, which the CBR plans to issue in addition to the existing forms of money (cash and non-cash).
The VTB supervisory board also reviewed the results of the digital transformation. More than 850,000 components of VTB's IT landscape related to 760 of the bank's information systems were transferred to domestic technology. This accounts for 91% of the targeted information systems.
"In this way, the bank has achieved all the planned goals for 2024 regarding import substitution. The remaining systems and solutions are expected to be completed this year. The bank is actively testing various Russian IT solutions to form a resilient IT infrastructure technologically independent of foreign solutions," VTB said.
