Russia and Myanmar to boost cooperation in healthcare, medical education, science

MOSCOW. March 5 (Interfax) - Representatives of the Health Ministries of Russia and Myanmar have signed a memorandum to develop the two countries' long-term cooperation in healthcare, medical education and science, the Russian Health Ministry said.

"A memorandum of understanding between the Health Ministry of the Russian Federation and the Health Ministry of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar was signed during the Russia-Myanmar expanded negotiations in the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister of Myanmar Min Aung Hlaing," the ministry's press service said in a statement on Wednesday.

Health Minister Mikhail Murashko signed the memorandum on behalf of Russia, it said.

The document aims to establish a partnership between Russia and Myanmar and further develop their long-term, efficient and mutually beneficial cooperation in healthcare, medical education and science.

Under the memorandum, the parties will take steps to advance bilateral cooperation in a number of areas, among them organization and management of the state healthcare system, advanced training programs for medical staff, infectious disease prevention and response and public health promotion, including prevention of non-communicable diseases and protection of maternal and child health.

The two countries' authorities will also help establish direct contacts between scientific, educational and medical organizations of Russia and Myanmar, the statement said.
