Czech, Slovak farmers block border in protest against agricultural imports from Ukraine

MOSCOW. Feb 28 (Interfax) - Czech and Slovak farmers have parked dozens of tractors and disrupted operations at a border crossing with Ukraine to protest against cheaper agricultural imports coming from non-EU markets.

Farmers' associations urge their countries' authorities to block a deal with South America's Mercosur organization and to reach a new agreement with Ukraine in order to protect the European Union's agricultural sector and cut red tape in the EU, Ukrainian media outlets said, citing Western media.

Protests on Thursday included farmers from Hungary and Austria, with signs saying 'Stop grain from Ukraine' and "Green Deal Dead End', the latter referring to the EU's climate strategy. Protests were also held in other border areas, including a border crossing in Poland.
