Azerbaijan, Somalia agree to collaborate in oil and gas sector

BAKU. Feb 27 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan's Energy Ministry and the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of the Federal Republic of Somalia have signed a memorandum of understanding on collaborating in the oil and gas sector.

Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov posted on social media that the document was signed following his meeting on Thursday with Somali Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Dahir Shire Mohamed, with the parties discussing the prospects for an energy partnership during the talks.

"The document promotes developing collaboration, as based on Azerbaijan's vast experience in oil and gas projects," Shahbazov wrote.

The press release of Azerbaijan's Energy Ministry notes that the memorandum envisages the exchange of experience, participation in events held in both countries, as well as holding joint seminars and forums to develop cooperation in the oil and gas sector.

"Shahbazov expressed confidence that Azerbaijan and Somalia will establish mutually beneficial cooperation based on the potential of both countries in the future. The parties also discussed the possibility of training Somali students in Azerbaijani universities specializing in the oil and gas industry," according to the press release.
