Russia boosts flour exports 3% to almost 1.2 mln tonnes in 2024 - Agroexport

MOSCOW. Feb 19 (Interfax) - Russia exported nearly 1.2 million tonnes of flour in 2024, up 3% compared to 2023, the Agroexport federal center said, citing preliminary estimates from experts.

The main buyer last year was Afghanistan, which rose from third place in 2022 (figures for 2023 are not provided). Turkmenistan ranked second, up from fifth place in 2022, while Iraq dropped from second to third place.

The top five buyers also included China, which was in sixth place in 2022, and Kazakhstan, which climbed from eighth place.

Russian exports of wheat and wheat-rye flour could reach 1.7 million tonnes by 2030, according to Agroexport's estimate.

The Institute for Agricultural Market Studies estimates that this year's flour exports might amount to 80%-85% of the record 2024 level.

According to its presentation, seasonal exports (from August 2023 to July 2024) totaled 1.245 million tonnes, compared to 830,000 tonnes in the previous season. However, exports have slowed in the new season, which began in August 2024. Between August and December 2024, 400,000 tonnes of flour were exported, compared to 475,000 tonnes in the same period of 2023.

At the same time, wheat bran exports (from August to December 2024, with the season ending in July 2025) increased to 445,000 tonnes, from 395,000 tonnes a year earlier. Russia exported 1.158 million tonnes of bran in the 2023-2024 season, compared to 1.11 million tonnes in the previous season.
