Ammonia leak occurs at PhosAgro plant in Balakovo, one death reported

SARATOV. Feb 19 (Interfax) - An ammonia leak occurred at JSC Apatit (part of PhosAgro Group ) in Balakovo in the Saratov region on Wednesday, the company told Interfax.

In turn, the prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into the death of one person and the hospitalization of another, the office said on its Telegram channel.

"According to preliminary information, on February 19, an ammonia leak occurred during operations at one of the enterprises in Balakovo, resulting in the death of one worker and injuries to another," it said.

The injured worker has been hospitalized.

The municipal prosecutor's office is investigating the causes and circumstances of the incident and will assess compliance with occupational safety legislation, it said.
