Trump names oil and gas among Ukrainian natural resources U.S. is interested in
MOSCOW. Feb 13 (Interfax) - U.S. President Donald Trump, who said a few days ago that the U.S. could conclude a $500 billion rare earth metals deal with Ukraine to secure the financial and military aid provided by Washington to Kiev, has added oil and gas to this list.
"We are getting security on our money. They have rare earths and they have oil and gas and they have a lot of other things. And we're asking for security on our money," Ukrainian media quoted Trump as telling journalists in the White House last night.
"Ukraine has agreed to it," he said.
Aid will continue to be provided to Ukraine, but this money has to be secured, Trump said.
As reported, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent passed a draft partnership agreement to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky at their meeting on February 12. Zelensky said that it deals with rare earth metals.
"I'm looking forward to our team reviewing this document. We will do our best to ensure that our teams reach agreement very quickly and sign this document," Zelensky said after the meeting with Bessent.
