Ukraine's Rada authorizes Russian equipment purchase for Khmelnitsky NPP Units 3 and 4 from Bulgaria

MOSCOW. Feb 11 (Interfax) - Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada has passed a bill authorizing Energoatom to buy equipment for building Khmelnitsky Nuclear Power Plant Units 3 and 4, Ukrainian media reported, citing the parliament member Yaroslav Zheleznyak.

The Rada made a corresponding decision at a plenary session on Tuesday, voting in favor of the bill as a whole.

As reported, this Russian-made equipment was previously bought by Bulgaria to build the Belene NPP, while later the construction was abandoned.

These are two VVER-1000 reactors. Western media put the approximate amount of the Ukrainian-Bulgarian contract at around $650 million.

Rosatom CEO Alexei Likhachev has recently described Kiev's intention to purchase this equipment as a good promotion of the Russian manufacturer.
