Deaths exceed births by 2.8-fold in Ukraine in 2024
MOSCOW. Feb 5 (Interfax) - The mortality rate was 2.8 times higher than the birth rate in Ukraine in 2024, with the largest number of births recorded in Kiev and the highest death rates seen in the Dnepropetrovsk region, Ukrainian media said, citing a report published on the Justice Ministry's website.
A total of 176,679 babies were born and 495,090 deaths were registered in Ukraine last year.
In 2024, the birth rate dropped 5.8% from 2023, when 187,300 babies were born.
The largest number of newborns was recorded in the city of Kiev (19,700), the Lvov region (15,600), the Dnepropetrovsk region (14,000), the Odessa region (12,500), and the Kiev region (10,200).
Meanwhile, the highest death rates in 2024 were in the Dnepropetrovsk region (53,268), Kiev (35,528), the Kharkov region (34,883), the Odessa region (32,147), and the Kiev region (29,339).
